We had actually turn in applications for adoptions with a couple of Boxer rescues after Tasha died. Eco had never been an only-dog, and being deaf he always relied heavily on Tasha's hearing. It was clear after Tasha passed that he missed his friend dearly, and so we thought he could benefit from a companion. After he died, we decided not to withdraw those applications, and two weeks later we got a call from one of the rescues following up on a Boxer pup that Matt had inquired about - Lola.
I have to admit, I was a little bit on the fence about it at first. As much as I wanted another dog, it felt strange to be letting a new fur-baby into our lives so quickly, but after a few phone conversation one Saturday morning, we got the family loaded up in the car and drove out to Coeur d'Alene to meet her.
She came home with us that night.
I mean, how can you resist that face! She is 14 months old, mostly potty trained (still working on the letting us know part...), very smart & sweet, and full of energy. And she is great with the kiddos - which was our one non-negotiable aspect of the adoption.
So if we weren't busy before (ha!), we definitely are now.
In other news, Sofi is now (kinda) eating solids. We've started her with some fruits and veggies like we did with Nico. But even though she's super interested in watching us eat, and wants to put our food in her mouth, the moment that we actually feed her she loses interest completely. Oh well... I'm sure she'll eventually discover something that she absolutely loves (like Nico did with tumeric-spiced cauliflower).
She is also completely sitting up on her own which is awesome. I love the infant phase with babies, but it is really amazing how independent they start to become when they can sit and start moving, which she's definitely doing.
No crawling yet, but she's definitely eager to get places! And just because she's not crawling it doesn't mean that she'll stay in one place - she rolls and scoots all over trying to get to toys/dogs/Nico. And she is so strong! I haven't been able to capture it yet, but she loves to plank! In my exercise class my instructor would joke that me working out through my pregnancy meant that baby was going to come out doing push ups and squats -- he wasn't too far off the mark!
And Nico - my perfect little angel - has been acting like an almost three-year-old and is pushing boundaries left and right. It is so out of character for him that it's completely throwing me off, but I need to remember that he is just three, and is supposed to be driving me crazy every once in a while. Also, we brought a new baby home! And even though he didn't act jealous and call out for extra attention when Sofi was born, that doesn't mean that a new puppy getting attention isn't going to push him a little bit.
